URGENT DRUG DOSE ERROR
A drug dose error within the 2013 JRCALC clinical guidelines has been brought to our attention. On page 327 of the reference version the initial IM dose of naloxone at birth is correctly listed as 40 micrograms, but the volume is incorrect by a factor of 5. It currently reads as 0.5ml but should read 0.1ml. The page for age and pocket book entries are correctly printed.
The initial IM dose of naloxone at birth for respiratory arrest/extreme respiratory depression on page 327 of the 2013 guidelines should read as follows:
Age | Initial dose | Repeat dose | Dose Interval | Concentration | Volume | Maximum dose |
Birth | 40 micrograms | See over | 3 minutes | 400 micrograms in 1 ml | 0.1 ml | See below |
